Effect of glass structure on diffusion and interdiffusion in glass
Currently, the influence of glass structure on ion transport processes is not yet well understood. However the understanding of this phenomenon is quite important for industrial processes like chemical strengthening. This process consists of developing a high surface compression due to the replacement of one type of ions present at the surface by another type with a higher ionic radius. The aim of this project is to correlate the glass structure to the diffusion and interdiffusion of alkali cations.
