FASAMA

Additive manufacturing or 3D printing is a versatile technique allowing for the production of complex shapes by the fabrication of successive layers. Electron Beam Melting (EBM) and Selective Laser Melting (SLM) are powder bed fusion processes used for the additive manufacturing of metal parts.

The projects AERO+ and FASAMA are designed to study the applicability of additive manufacturing for the aeronautical industry considering geometrical limits as well as fabrication strategies. Both projects aim at a better understanding of the physical and metallurgical phenomena involved in the additive manufacturing of metal parts with a particular focus on the fabrication of Ti-alloys, further including the consideration of Al-alloys. A correlation between the process parameters, the microstructure and the mechanical properties are established to advance the industrialisation of additive manufacturing in the aeronautical industry.

The projects AERO+ and FASAMA are included in Wallonia’s “Plan Marshall 4.0” spanning over a period of five years (2015-2019) as part of the initiative to foster innovation within Wallonia.
